Safety Rules for Carers and Parents…
Bus travel is one of the safest ways for your child to travel to school. To ensure your child’s safety you can help by:
- Arranging for an adult to accompany your child to and from the bus stop.
- Never calling your child to cross the road to meet you.
- Waiting for your child after school on the same side of the road as bus stops.
- There is a 25km/h speed limit for traffic around buses picking up or setting down school children. The limit is for all traffic traveling in the same direction as the bus. The 25km/h speed limit must be obeyed when the front and rear “wig wag” lights on each bus flash.
- When crossing roads, always hold the hand of children, especially children who under 8 years of age.
- When driving, slow down in areas where there are children walking or playing. WAIT on the footpath until the bus had driven away. Find the safest place to cross. WATCH until there is no traffic or the traffic has stopped. WALK across the road, turning your head both ways to look and listen for traffic.
